Carder was once used to card wool. The first year, its rosettes of long leaves make good ground cover. The following year, the flowering stem rises, a steep, highly architectural candelabrum. The leaves, linked in pairs at the stem, form a bowl where birds come to drink. It also attracts bees and butterflies. The progression of flower bloom is unique, starting with a pinkish ring in the center of the spike, then another on either side each day, progressing upwards and downwards simultaneously. An excellent dried flower. Monocarpic perennial, hardy in zone 3, and self-sowing: potentially invasive! 1.50m-2m.<\/p>\n
