Press the seeds onto the surface of a potting soil and keep moist, at around 21\u00b0C. Germination is concentrated in the first two weeks. Raise seedlings in containers and, once acclimatized to outdoor conditions, transplant them to the garden, aiming for a final spacing of between 30 and 60 cm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many sources claim that seeds of this species must be cold-stratified to bring them out of dormancy, but this is not the case for us... Germination occurs quickly and unequivocally at 21\u00b0C with no preceding cold spells.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mexican hat is a native perennial whose native range extends from the west coast of North America to Manitoba. Its remarkable blooms can be admired from June to September in prairies and dry valleys. A well-anchored taproot supports these strange bouquets of yellow flowers with downward-combed petals, clearly related to echinaceas and rudbeckies... except that here the central cone is filiform and very protuberant, creating a profile that is, to say the least, comical. <\/span>40-90 cm high. For a warm, dry or moderately dry site in full sun.<\/span><\/p>\n
