The green climbing melon, an old French variety, is a small embroidered melon that fits in one hand... But what a concentrate of flavour! Its format is practical for vertical trellising, and therefore for small gardens or greenhouses: there's no need to support the fruit as it rises with netting because of its small diameter and light weight (500-800 g).
La peau des fruits, d’abord vert foncé moucheté de vert pâle, vire à l’orangé à pleine maturité. À vous de décider du stade de mûrissement que vous préférez… Nous aimons cueillir les fruits au stade où le vert commence à virer pour profiter pleinement de leur chair verte sucrée, fondante, juteuse et agréablement parfumée, aux notes de pâte d’amande et de muscade. La récolte débute 90 jours à partir du semis direct, ou 65-70 jours suite à la transplantation.

Semez directement en place à 1,5 cm de profond lorsque le sol est bien réchauffé à un minimum de 20 °C, sans baisser en deçà de 15 °C la nuit. La température idéale de germination est entre 25 °C et 30 °C. On peut aussi semer en contenant, 4 semaines avant de transplanter, pas plus tôt. Gardez de 80 cm à 1 mètre en tous sens au jardin. Protégez d’une cloche ou d’un mini tunnel lors des nuits trop fraîches.
