immortelle bio
$4.75
Bracteantha bracteata, Asteraceae
syn. Helichrysum bracteatum, Xerochrysum bracteatum
immortelle with bracts, strawflower
The bracted immortelle is a popular straw flower as a fresh cut flower or in dry bouquets. It's a tender perennial grown as an annual, originally from Australia, where it grows naturally in rocky soil in full sun... which tells us something about its drought tolerance. We offer a multicolored mix of pearly white, pale pink, apricot, scarlet red and fuchsia.
Cut them off before the flowers have fully opened, strip them off and dry them hanging in an airy, dark corner to immortalize them in the dry, or leave them to delight foraging insects in the garden, where they will continue their show until the frosts. For a rather dry, sunny site. 0.6 - 0.9 m tall. 75-85 days to maturity.

Sow indoors around mid-April:
Press the seeds onto the surface of the potting soil, between 20°C and 24°C, until they germinate, which generally takes around ten days. Once your seedlings have hardened off, and after any danger of frost, transplant them to the garden, keeping 22-25 cm between plants.
