French sorrel is our favorite sorrel! It's a small perennial with buckler-shaped leaves, mostly silvery since the original seeds came from the cultivar ‘Silver Shields’. It makes a perfect ground cover along pathways or at the front of a flowerbed, where it's easy to harvest its small, succulent, lemony leaves: A delicacy that should be eaten sparingly because of their high oxalic acid content. Unconcerned about soil type, it is equally at home in sun or semi-shade. Zone 4.
